David Stein
I’m David Stein, a lifelong Michigander from the eastern and northern suburbs around Detroit. I was an IT guy from the early days, and just recently took early retirement from a long career as an Audio/Visual Director in the meeting, theater, and academic worlds.
I got my love of aviation and photography from my father, a Navy Vet of WWII and Korea. For Korea
he chose to move from big guns to big cameras and became a combat photographer, receiving his four Purple Hearts from behind a camera. After the wars, he remained a professional photographer.
I grew up with a camera in my hand, and with a love of aviation. I’ve never been one for sweating the technical side of the camera, just a love of getting the shot. Grew up as a film and darkroom guy, but moved to digital early. To date, most of my aviation shots have been via my trusty old Nikon D70 and a 50-200mm lens, though it’s showing its age. Recently a friend lent me his Nikon D500 with a 200-500mm zoom, which was an experience. Following my Dad’s philosophy, ìThe best camera is the one you have. î I’ve been working on the best way to shoot using my iPhone, some of these shots are from this.
I’m VERY new to organizing plane spotting, so looking to explore more and learn more.
